April Recap: What’s Been Happening

As April ends, it’s been another busy and rewarding time here at Cats in Distress, with plenty of reasons to feel positive despite the usual challenges that come with rescue work. We’ve seen some wonderful rehoming successes, alongside ongoing efforts behind the scenes to support cats who aren’t quite ready for their forever homes just yet.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH

A real highlight for us this month has been the successful rehoming of Belle’s kittens;
Simba, Rafiki, Kiara and Zuzu. These four were quickly snapped up and, even better, adopted in pairs, ensuring they each have a familiar companion as they settle into their new homes. It’s always especially rewarding to see kittens find the right homes quickly. Another lovely success story is Zeus, our striking Bengal, who clearly made quite the impression, and his new owners fell in love with him at first sight.
Now renamed Frank, he’s living the high life, full of playfulness and already very much settled into his new home. Stories like this are always so rewarding to hear and remind us just how quickly the right match can make all the difference.

LOST BUT LOVED

Another story that really captured people’s attention this month was our group of “lost but loved” boys; Sampson, Rusty, Morgan, Ken and Bowie. We shared their journey on social media, and the response was incredible. These unneutered stray boys were found in a very sorry state and have needed significant care since coming into us. Between them, they’ve required everything from shaving and wound treatment to parasite care, neutering and dentals. They’re all now at different stages of recovery, but each one is making great progress. We’re hopeful that next month will see them ready to begin the next chapter.

A VERY SPECIAL REUNION

One of the most emotional moments this month has been the story of Simba, a much-loved cat who has finally been reunited with his family after more than two years missing. Simba was located and safely trapped by Search and Scan, marking the beginning of what would become an incredible journey home. When he came into care, he was heavily matted, covered in ticks and suffering from tapeworm. Despite everything he had been through, he remained a gentle and affectionate boy throughout.

With support from Cats in Distress, Simba received the treatment he needed to return to full health – including intensive grooming and clipping, parasite treatment, neutering and microchipping. Simba had originally gone missing shortly after arriving at his home, before he had the chance to be chipped or neutered. During his time away, his family experienced significant changes, including the loss of his sister and a house move. Despite this, contact was eventually re-established, making this long-awaited reunion possible.
Stories like Simba’s are a powerful reminder of why microchipping and neutering are so important and just how much these cats are loved and missed.

WAITING FOR THEIR TURN

For every cat who finds a home quickly, there are others who quietly wait. Sumo and Bobby have both been with us for some time now. They’re ready, they’re deserving; but they’re still here. Cats like them often get overlooked. Black cats, older cats, and those with ongoing health needs can find themselves waiting that little bit longer, through no fault of their own. It’s easy to be drawn to the smallest, youngest, or most “perfect on paper”, but we would gently ask you to look again. Because for Sumo and Bobby, the right home would change everything. We’re hopeful that next month will be their turn!

A BIG MILESTONE AHEAD

We’re also gearing up for something very special as we head into June — Cats in Distress turns 10! To celebrate a decade of rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming, we’ll be hosting our Summer Celebration Birthday Fair on 13th June. There’s lots to organise behind the scenes, but it promises to be a brilliant day. There will be stalls, a raffle, refreshments and plenty of fun, all in honour of the thousands of cats we’ve helped over the past ten years — and the amazing community that has supported us along the way. We’d love to see as many of you there as possible to celebrate this milestone with us.

As always, thank you to everyone who continues to support Cats in Distress. Whether you adopt, foster, donate or simply share our posts, you play a vital role in helping us give these cats the second chances they deserve.
