January 2026

I think we’ll all be glad to see the back of January what a wet and dreary month its been. Thankfully, January is normally a fairly quiet month for us, we do our very best to get cats either adopted or out to foster before Christmas, so that our volunteers and staff at the rescue can have a break over the festive period. January started with us having 50 animals under our care. January was busy with 31 cats go to new homes, 14 cats and (unbelievably for January) 17 kittens. With adoptions in Bristol, Wells & Bath as well as closer to home in Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster & Frome its certainly kept us busy.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MONTH:

A few notable adoptions were Chip & Nugget, a sweet but nervous pair who had been with us for over 4 months were finally adopted by the loveliest couple in Bradford on Avon. As we always say recommendation counts for a lot and it was only a couple of days after they were adopted that a relative of theirs contacted us and then adopted Kit. Fearne & Kat were the last of our 2025 mums to be admitted and they like Kit, both found their homes this month. Another pair to find their forever home was Mick & Benji, although it was a bitter sweet moment for us. Our long term fosterers Kim & Sophie had fallen in love their latest foster, but realised he needed more than just them, he needed a feline companion. After a discussion I suggested Benji who had come to us in the middle of December, Benji was quieter, wanted love but still not too sure about humans. Sadly, for us it was a match made in heaven, within days Mick & Benji were bonding, allo-grooming and it was as tho’ they’d always been together. We love a happy ending, its just a shame we had to lose a wonderful foster home, but after 41 cats, they deserve their own cats to love.

As well as rehoming cats in our care, we also provide home to home (or direct) rehoming. This isn’t always an option, but when a new home needs to be found for owned cats, but it’s not critical, the cats remain in their own home until we find the right match. This avoids taking up valuable rescue space for those animals that are in desperate need. Lily & Lila were a pair who benefitted from this service this month and are now happily settled in their new home.

As well as rehoming we’ve also had a couple of animals reunited, Ned & Tippy. Tippy was a 4 month old kitten who had got out when the door was left open. Luckily he was handed into local vets who contacted us to help. Tippy spent a couple of days with us before being reunited.

With more cats being rehomed (31) than being admitted (18), we are at last getting a bit of a breather, giving us much needed time to do all those boring things that we normally do at this time of the year, spring cleaning, health & safety updates & writing reports, etc. Preparing ourselves for the coming year, which fingers crossed won’t be quite as busy as we fear.
