Cats in Distress

Avril update…

(Trigger warning: loss)

Some of you may remember Avril, she came to us in February, after she had been homeless for at least 8 months. Sadly, Avril is another one that came to us too late.

When she first arrived she was bright and so affectionate, but it quickly became apparent that things weren’t quite right. She had an open sore next to her vulva, which was growing very quickly. She quickly started to go downhill, sleeping all day, eating but only when she had her food put in front of her. If she didn’t have her cone on she would continually want to lick herself sore.

She had the best three weeks in the loving care of Lynette Nicholson, but last week it was decided she had no quality of life, Lynette and I were both with her when she fell asleep for the final time.

Would the outcome have been different if she’d come to us, when she was first noticed hiding in the hedge? We’ll never know, but at least she didn’t pass away, cold alone and suffering in pain.
RIP Avril sleep well xx
