Building for the Future: Our ICU Appeal

As the number of vulnerable cats needing our help continues to grow, so too does the need for specialist facilities that allow us to provide the highest level of care possible.

One of our biggest ambitions for the future is the creation of a dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and isolation facility at Cats in Distress.

Infectious diseases such as cat flu and panleukopenia (feline parvovirus) are becoming increasingly common challenges within rescue work. Having a separate ICU and isolation space would dramatically improve our ability to care for critically ill cats, protect the wider rescue population, and respond quickly during disease outbreaks.

The new unit would provide a safe, purpose-built environment for:

  • Cats requiring intensive nursing and round-the-clock care.
  • Infectious or potentially infectious cats needing isolation.
  • Vulnerable kittens and nursing mothers requiring additional support.
  • Post-operative cats needing quiet recovery spaces.

Our target is to raise £15,000 to make this project a reality.

While ambitious, every donation, fundraiser, grant, vote and nomination brings us one step closer to providing these life-saving facilities for the cats who need us most.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Vote for us through My Giving Circle

We are currently taking part in the My Giving Circle voting campaign, where supporters can help charities secure grant funding simply by voting.

Voting is completely free, takes less than a minute, and can be repeated every week until voting closes on 30th September 2026.

This grant round will award £10,100 to the top charities across the UK and Europe:

  • 🥇 1st Place: £3,000
  • 🥈 2nd Place: £2,000
  • 🥉 3rd Place: £1,000
  • 4th-10th Place: £300 each
  • 11th-20th Place: £200 each

Every vote helps us climb the leaderboard and improve our chances of securing funding that could go directly towards our future ICU and isolation unit.

Nominate us through Benefact Group’s Movement for Good

Another fantastic way to support our future ICU plans is by nominating Cats in Distress through the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good programme.

The Benefact Group gives away all of its available profits to good causes and, through this programme, charities, CICs and non-profits have the opportunity to receive donations through a series of funding draws throughout the year.

There are still several opportunities for Cats in Distress to secure funding in 2026:

  • Draw 2 (7th-11th September): 100 charities will each receive £1,000.
  • Animals & Wildlife Special Draw (5th-18th October): 10 organisations supporting animals and wildlife will each receive £5,000.
  • Draw 3 (1st-16th December): 240 charities will each receive £1,000.

For a small rescue charity like ours, opportunities such as these could make a huge difference. A successful award through either My Giving Circle or Movement for Good could cover a significant proportion of the remaining £10,000 needed to make our ICU plans a reality.

Whether you vote weekly, submit a nomination, share our campaigns, or organise your own fundraiser, you are helping us build a safer future for cats in need.
